Objective and structure of the report This document is the final report of the second Jean-Jacques Gautier Symposium entitled Addressing situations of vulnerability of LGBT persons in detention. Its purpose is not to provide a detailed account of the two-day meeting, but rather to highlight the issues, strategies and main tracks identified during the discussions. The first part of this report sets out the general framework of the theme by presenting the definitions and principles regarding the issue of LGBT persons deprived of their liberty. The second section focuses on risk factors and situations of risk identified by the participants. Finally, the last section highlights the potential role NPMs could play to address issues faced by LGBT persons in detention and outlines examples of best practices in this regard presented by participants. 3
