Regarding sexual and gender-based violence, the Special Rapporteur recommends that the Government: (a) Review the draft law on sexual and gender-based violence adopted by the Council of Ministers in March 2016 in the light of the international obligations of Mauritania; (b) Adopt and implement legislation to prohibit all forms of female genital mutilation and to hold criminally accountable health-care professionals, community leaders and other public officials who perpetrate or condone the practice or refuse to implement relevant laws. 23
