During his detention in a Ministry of Intelligence facility in Marivan and at Marivan Prison, Mr. Butimar was beaten and repeatedly taken to a room in the basement of the jail, which was filled with sewage and excrement, hung by his hands and forced to keep his head lifted in order to avoid drowning in the sewage. As a result he suffers from severe pain, has bruises on his face and hands. Moreover, he was held in a cell 1 x 1m, where there was a toilet, a faucet and a cup. An appeal was apparently lodged with the Supreme Court concerning his mental age but was rejected.
