Lack of sufficient police protection for demonstrators • Demonstrators at a pride march were protected by police against onlookers whose behaviour ranged from spitting and jeering to throwing Molotov cocktails. Once the event ended and police protection was lifted, however, some 30 to 40 demonstrators were attacked by organized gangs. Furthermore, when some of those who had been assaulted were taken to the police station, they were kept in the same room as their attackers.106 • Police forces failed to protect demonstrators from attacks by counterdemonstrators during and after a pride march. Counter-protesters threw eggs, bottles, and Molotov cocktails at people taking part in the march, and several people were injured. This attack was condemned by the mayor of the city where the march took place, and charges were pressed against eight alleged perpetrators.107 106 107 The case of a pride march in Zagreb (Croatia).
