According to the data of the Department of Prisons of 25 May 2022, a ‘mental disability’ (Lt. ‘psichikos negalia’) had been identified for 12 persons held in prisons at the time (out of around 5300 held in prisons in total).54 THowever, the official status of disability in Lithuania is much narrower and based on the medical model, and the related system does not follow the same concept of ‘disability’ as it is defined in international human rights law, e.g., in the UN CRPD. Additionally, psychiatric diagnoses in prisons are only determined during the first medical examination when Data from the Prison Department under the Ministry of Justice, available in Lithuanian at: https://bit.ly/46oTPvl. 54 Reply from the Department of Prisons under the Ministry of Justice, Registration No: 1S-2038, 27 May 2022. 53
