4.9 Centre in Ashgabat
Introduction
The OSCE Centre in Ashgabat (the Centre) was established in 1999. In accordance with the
MoU between the Centre and the Government of Turkmenistan, the Centre assists the host
country in implementing the OSCE principles and commitments, promoting the host country’s
co-operation with the OSCE across all spheres. A part of the Centre’s police-related activities
focuses on building the capacities of law enforcement agencies in countering terrorism, illicit
drugs trafficking, enhancing border security and management and cyber/ICT security. The
Centre complements these activities with projects aimed at CTHB, prevention of domestic
violence, and assistance to the penitentiary and criminal justice systems.
