4.14 Project Co-ordinator
in Uzbekistan
Introduction
The OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan (PCUz) supports host country authorities in
strengthening their anti-money-laundering efforts and combating the financing of terrorism
(AML/CFT) in line with the Recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Since
2012, the PCUz’s core activities in combating money laundering and terrorism financing
are established on a risk-based approach and focus on capacity-building of the Financial
Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Office of Prosecutor General and staff of financial institutions or
other institutions engaged in AML/CFT measures.
Since 2007, the PCUz has been providing assistance to the Police Academy under the MIA to
improve the Academy’s training competencies. Special attention was paid to the re-training
and professional development of specialists countering terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking,
and trafficking in human beings.
