Provisions related to Reproductive Rights
Paragraph 24 sets out that states “should reduce the constraints
faced by men and women in reconciling professional and family
responsibilities by promoting adequate policies for childcare and care of
dependent family members”.
According to Paragraph 27: “Gender-based violence is a form of
discrimination that inhibits the ability to enjoy rights and freedoms,
including economic, social and cultural rights, on a basis of equality.
States parties must take appropriate measures to eliminate violence
against men and women and act with due diligence to prevent,
investigate, mediate, punish and redress acts of violence against them
by private actors.”
Paragraph 29 stresses that states must address “the ways in which
gender roles affect access to determinants of health, such as water and
food; the removal of legal restrictions on reproductive health provisions;
the prohibition of female genital mutilation; and the provision of
adequate training for health-care workers to deal with women’s health
issues”.
