DRAFT CEDAW General recommendation on Trafficking in Women and Girls in the Context of Global Migration a) Enhancing the collection, analysis and dissemination of comprehensive data and using measurable indicators to assess trends on the situation of women and girls and progress achieved towards the realization by women of substantive equality in all areas covered by the Convention, in particular combatting trafficking.48 b) Disaggregating data collected on victims of trafficking by sex, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, immigration status, location, socioeconomic status49 and all forms of exploitation, under indicator 16.2.2.2 of the Sustainable Development Goals. c) Collecting and publishing data on trafficking in women and girls, and specifically on: i. The prevalence of both internal and cross-border trafficking.50 ii. Its scope, extent, forms of exploitation, causes, and consequences for women and girls; 51 iii. Its potential link with bonded labour, domestic servitude and child and forced marriage;52 iv. The internal trafficking risk factors for women and girls migrating within the State party; 53 v. Trafficking in the context of international migration, including the countries of origin, transit and destination of victims;54 vi. The number of investigations, prosecutions, convictions and the sentences imposed on perpetrators and the access to justice and compensation awarded to victims;55 vii. The number of trafficked women and girls arrested, detained, or prosecuted for status-related offenses including illegal entry or departure, illegal stay, illegal work 56 or crimes committed as a result of being trafficked; viii. The number of exit or entry visas or permits issued or denied to trafficked women and girls; ix. The number of trafficked women and girls who sought and were granted asylum; x. The number of trafficking victims granted or denied needs-based protection and assistance and their level of satisfaction where assistance was provided. d) Establishing partnerships with international organizations and civil society stakeholders to systematically collect this information;57 e) Improving exchange of data among anti-trafficking stakeholders to ensure prompt and needs-based assistance to victims with due respect to data protection and confidentiality;58 f) Analyzing the data with the objective to inform the development of: i.
